Artists We Love: Kayce Hughes

In every single one of our projects, we find ourselves saying “Art is personal.” It takes a lot of time and patience to source the perfect piece for each space, and is always worth the process.

This week, we’re really excited to introduce you to one of our favorites, Kayce Hughes! Kayce blends bold color and softer lines to create stand out yet calming pieces that we absolutely love. She’s very enjoyable to work with and For both big and small pieces, she’s always one of the first we go to.

Can you share a little of your background as an artist?

In college I was a studio art major but after graduation ended up working for Ralph Lauren in the women’s design department. Then I went on to create my own women’s and children’s line that was sold and three of my own stores as well as wholesale and through trunk shows. In 2016 I sold that company which enabled me to focus on painting full-time.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Most weekdays start with getting my youngest to school and then coming home enjoying a cappuccino. I am usually in the studio by 8 AM working until it’s time for late afternoon pick up. Then it’s lots of sports dropping off and picking up with grocery shopping or more often food pick up in between. Sometimes after dinner I pop down to the studio to get one more layer on a painting but more often it’s a hot bubble bath and a good Netflix show …when I can find one.

What has most shaped your love for creating art?

I have loved the process of making things for as long as I can remember.

What inspires your work?

Everything inspires my work. I see color combinations in vintage rugs as well as moss and leaves on an afternoon walk. I’ve always been inspired by writing and calligraphy and the shapes they create.

What is your favorite color to work with?

I love too many colors to pick a favorite! (One of our favorite things about Kayce is that she doesn’t shy away from exploring new colors!)

If you could pick one word to describe your work, what would it be?
That’s a hard one.... Perhaps my goal would be “hopeful.”
